What Does Trademark Opposition Mean?<\/h2>\r\n

When a trademark<\/a> application is advertised in the Trade Marks Journal, third parties get an opportunity to oppose its registration.<\/p>\r\n

The person or business filing the opposition is called the opponent<\/strong>. The applicant whose trademark is being challenged can respond through a counterstatement and, where applicable, evidence and hearing.<\/p>\r\n

Trademark opposition is therefore different from a trademark examination objection raised by the Trade Marks Registry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
